Quiet Hocket (2011) for horn and harp is dedicated to Daniel and Barbara Fackler.
Hocket (noun, Middle English) a technique in medieval musical composition in which two or three voice parts
are given notes or short phrases in rapid alternation.
As the title implies, the entire work is constructed as gentle, quiet hocket between the two
very different instruments. There are no shared attacks, and the two instruments engage in the
creation of a single musical line and discourse. The atmosphere is serene and placid throughout.
