This Christmas Pastorale is a setting of two Provencal carols: "Venez, Bergers" and "Un Flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle", both of
which date from around the 16th century.
The two themes are first presented seperately and then combined to form a unique texture. The three percussion insturments may
be placed in different positions in order to underline the conterpoint between the three parts.
