Product Description
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Wedding March is one of the most celebrated piano pieces of the Romantic era — and at the keyboard, it instantly conjures that grand, unforgettable moment. These piano scores are aimed at players with approximately four years of lessons. The modulations into minor regions and the two-handed interplay demand genuine coordination, but that is precisely what makes the piece so satisfying to perform.
Piano Sheet Music "Hochzeitsmarsch" – Ceremonial Romanticism for Solo Piano
Mendelssohn composed this march in 1842 as part of his incidental music to Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" — originally for orchestra, and long since a classic for the keys. The piece is in F major and moves with a marching pulse through 41 bars. The alla breve time signature (2/2) gives the piece its characteristic march step — each half note counts as one beat, keeping the flow tight and forward-driving. The harmony remains largely diatonic — the scale sets the direction, with a few chromatic tones providing accents.
The melody sits in the middle to upper register of the right hand, carrying the main line with clarity. The left hand holds rhythm and harmony together — both hands have distinct roles that don't always coordinate themselves naturally. This becomes especially noticeable in the brief excursions into G minor (from bar 29) and A minor (from bar 33): the tonal colour shifts perceptibly there, and the fingers need to have the new key in their ear before they arrive. Dynamic shaping is an essential part of the character — this piece lives on contrasts between loud and soft.
- Range: c' to e'' (16 semitones)
- Ideal for: Wedding, performance, teaching
- Tempo: 120 — march-like and driven
- Main challenge: Two-handed coordination in the modulation sections (bars 29–36)
Practising the left hand in isolation first quickly reveals where the weight distribution lies — and allows the right hand to be placed over it with far greater confidence. The brief modulations to G minor and A minor are most convincing when those bars are first played in slow motion, until the new key is truly settled in the ear. For the dynamics: a clear crescendo before the climax and a deliberate pulling back afterwards make the difference between played notes and a genuine march.

guter Mittelweg zwischen dem Original und einfachen Arrangements
Geschickt arrangiert: leicht vereinfacht, dadurch gut spielbar, aber trotzdem noch voller Klang.
