Product Description
Lively, precise, and with genuine forward momentum β the accordion sheet music for "Petersburger Schlittenfahrt" by Richard Eilenberg is aimed at players with approximately four years of lessons. The wide pitch range spanning four octaves and the rapid runs in the right hand demand confident coordination across both manuals.
Sheet Music "Petersburger Schlittenfahrt" β a winter-driven character piece for accordion solo
Richard Eilenberg (1848β1927) wrote "Petersburger Schlittenfahrt" as a programmatic character piece β music that vividly evokes a wintry carriage ride through snow-covered streets. The piece ranks among the best-known salon music works of the late 19th century and remains a staple of the accordion repertoire to this day. This arrangement was made by Ekkehard Koch (b. 1974), who set the piece for accordion solo in F major.
F major gives the piece a bright, clear tonal character. The key requires only a single accidental and sits comfortably under the fingers. What keeps this arrangement at an intermediate level, however, is this: the melody spans a full four octaves, and the bellows control β that is, the management of pressure and direction of the bellows, which carries phrasing and dynamics on the accordion β must be precisely handled across all 89 bars. The legato phrasing, with its many short slurs, calls for sensitive control: each slur falls in a specific place, leaving no room for unstructured, free-flowing playing.
- Range: Eb to d''' (4 octaves)
- Primary challenge: Octave leaps in the left hand
- Additional challenge: Position shifts in the left hand coordinated with the bellows
- Additional challenge: Rapid runs in the right hand
Players who first work through the octave leaps in the left hand away from tempo β consciously coordinating the position shifts with the bellows β will quickly discover where the real difficulty lies: not in the grip itself, but in the transition. The rapid right-hand runs gain security when practised in small sections with steady bellows pressure before the tempo is increased. The short melodic slurs work best when a bellows change never falls in the middle of a slur β this requires planning, but pays off in terms of tonal flow.
A short audio preview is available β ideal for getting a feel for the tempo and character of the piece in advance. The sheet music is available for immediate download after purchase. 100% licensed β ready to perform legally, right away.
