Oboe Concerto in G minor - Sheet Music for Oboe and Chamber Orchestra Giacomo de Lucchesini

Giacomo de Lucchesini (? – 1739) was an Italian nobleman, military officer and composer of the 18th century. In addition to his career as a captain of the Cuirassier cavalry in the service of Emperor Charles VI, he devoted himself to the study of composition and music theory and distinguished himself through his passion for musical and scientific speculation. In 1738, he founded the "Society for Correspondence of Music Sciences" in Leipzig together with Lorenz Christoph Mizler and Georg Heinrich Bümler, a renowned academy shaped by Pythagorean thought that demanded scientific and contrapuntal skills from its members. Johann Sebastian Bach himself was admitted as a distinguished member.

As a composer, de Lucchesini enjoyed creating instrumental and theoretical music, pursuing a mathematical and philosophical approach to music. Of his works, only his Concerto in G minor for solo flute, strings and basso continuo is known. De Lucchesini died tragically in 1739 in battle at Gročka near Belgrade during the Austro-Turkish War.

The present reconstruction is based on a score copy from the period held in the Saxon State Library – University Library Dresden under the call number GroF 1204. The solo part has been assigned to the oboe, which is considered the most suitable instrument for this concerto; however, the original version can of course also be performed with the flute. The harpsichord part was completed from the figured bass.
