Product Description
"Hey, Pippi Longstocking" is a song almost everyone knows — and now that irresistible earworm is yours to play. These recorder duet parts are aimed at players with around three years of lessons under their belt: the detailed legato phrasing and two-voice writing demand control, but no tricks.
Recorder Sheet Music "Hey, Pippi Longstocking" — A Lively Classic as a Duet
"Hey, Pippi Longstocking" comes from the legendary Astrid Lindgren film adaptation of the 1970s. Konrad Elfers and Jan Johansson wrote the title song, and it has accompanied generations ever since. The theme is so catchy it lodges itself in memory instantly — and that's precisely what makes it such a rewarding piece to arrange as a duet. The song stands for independence and a spirit of adventure, and the melody carries that character directly.
In the duet, the soprano recorder takes the principal melodic line. The range spans more than two octaves — from a low starting position up into the high soprano register — and requires confident fingering technique across all positions. Individual interval leaps of up to an octave call for precise accuracy. The key of C major, with its straightforward fingering sequence, keeps the entry point accessible. The piece moves at a brisk, steady pulse through 34 bars with a repeat section. The consistently diatonic harmony — no modulations, no surprises — keeps your bearings clear at all times.
- Ideal for: lessons from approx. 3 years of study, student recitals, family celebrations
- Tempo:Â brisk and moving
- Main challenge: shaping the detailed legato phrasing with its many short slurs cleanly and expressively
Anyone who approaches the longer phrases — the piece contains sections of more than twelve bars without a breath — with a conscious breathing plan from the outset will find them considerably more relaxed to play. The many short legato slurs need to flow seamlessly into one another: each slur has its own shape, and no transition sounds the same. The piece becomes particularly effective when the dynamics support the form — louder where the melody pushes forward, softer where it pulls back. This makes the emotional arc audible without needing much explanation.
In the duet, it's well worth calibrating intonation together before the tempo picks up: both parts begin by slowly playing the main notes of the C major triad together, matching their embouchure so that the fifths and thirds between the voices sit stable. Once that's in your ear, you'll hold the tuning even at a brisk playing tempo.

Alles super
