Bach did not complete his monumental work "The Art of The Fugue." What he did complete, however, is without question the most important work he ever created. He dictated much of it from his deathbed, including this composition. Bach did not specify any particular instrumentation, and thus various instrumental arrangements have resulted. Unlike other editions, this edition is in D minor instead of C minor. This was chosen because transposing the music up by a whole step allows the lowest notes to be heard distinctly, and this change of key allows much greater clarity of the individual musical lines.
