Silent Night (A Study in Horn Chords) - Sheet Music for Horn Solo Franz Gruber

An entertaining piece for practicing horn chords in preparation for "Weber Concertino" and other serious works. An étude on horn chords, based on "Silent Night" by Gruber, Franz. It includes a brief explanation of the multiphonics technique. This étude uses singing in the following intervals: perfect fourth and perfect fifth, minor and major sixth, minor seventh and major tenth.

The work is an étude for horn players to study horn chords. The acoustical production of chords on the horn requires a specialized technique that is fundamentally simple to learn but demands great care in execution.

The player must tune their singing voice with the horn tone so that pitch and volume coincide and both tones sound simultaneously and with secure intonation. This produces an acoustical phenomenon: between the two tones, "magical" tones are created that the ear can clearly perceive – sometimes even a third or fourth tone appears.

The étude is notated in C, but can be transposed for different vocal ranges, such as to E♭, F, G, C, D and others, to adapt it to the singing voice. It is recommended that the singing voice sings the upper voice and the horn plays the lower voice. This allows for the best clarity of the chords. The two tones must match as closely as possible in pitch and volume so that the "magical" tones can sound.
