The San Jose Suite for Tuba and Piano is the composer's first composition for Tony Clements, whose virtuosity on this instrument allows him to write extended compositions in various scorings.

Movement One, Morning Minute, is a light and spirited affair that presents tuba and piano in dialogue with each other.

Movement Two, A Quiet Place, presents the lyricism of the tuba in a softer, ballad-like style.

Movement Three, Tarantella, is built on a light, airy melody that is played both in the solo part and in the accompaniment. It is brief and allows the soloist to demonstrate technical facility and range.

Movement Four, Finale, is a fast and spirited piece that enables tuba and piano to be equal partners in terms of virtuosity. The tuba has a very short quasi-cadenza before returning to the opening music.
