Description "Introduction und Rondo Op. 120"

The double bass quartet, which lasts around 7 minutes, is the only work by the Frankfurt composer dedicated to the solo double bass. Composed in 1983, it was premiered in 1984 by students at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt am Main. It is certainly one of the most difficult pieces in the double bass literature. It demands the greatest virtuosity from all 4 musicians. The music itself adheres to a freely treated tonality. Hessenberg comments: "Of course I try to compose independent music, but I write the word in small letters." (In: Kurt Hessenberg - Contributions to his life and work). Who dares?
