Four Charactristic Studies - Sheet Music for Horn In F Herman Jeurissen

Solo, Four movements: Dance of the CapriCORns, A Beautiful Whitsunday, Viennese Waltz, Dance of the HORNets, More than studies, they could be performed independently in a concert. The book is written in various styles: Pastorale, Scherzo, Waltz, ending with a dance. The writing is predominantly modal, sometimes atonal. There are some time signature changes.

The work consists of four characteristic studies for horn soloist.

I. PASTORALE – Shepherd's song and dance of the ibexes
The Pastorale is written in a Lydian-Mixolydian mode, a mixture of medieval Lydian and Mixolydian church modes. The dance of the ibexes is written in an enharmonic (nine-note) scale on F.

II. SCHERZO – A beautiful Whit Sunday
This study is a Phrygian scherzo, interrupted twice by a Gregorian chant from the Second Vespers on Whit Sunday "Veni Creator Spiritus".

III. VIENNESE WALTZ
This waltz is composed according to the dodecaphonic principles of the Second Viennese School, with Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg and Anton Webern as reference points.

IV. DANCE OF THE HORNS
This finale piece is a very "sounding" staccato study.
