Description "Die Hügel in Grün - Vestiva i colli - Pastorales Madrigal in drei Stimmen"

The madrigal "Vestiva i colli" from Palestrina's fifth book, published in 1566, is presented here in a chamber music trio version based on the model by Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde (1638). The violin leads the bright, singing soprano voice with clear ease, while the cello unites the alto and tenor in a warm, carrying sound - partly in octaves, partly alternating to keep the polyphonic imitations alive. The harpsichord lays the harmonic foundation with a restrained continuo realization. The result is The Hills in Green: an intimate miniature in which Palestrina's contrapuntal mastery meets the sound world of the early Baroque - a melancholy walk through green hills, carried by Renaissance clarity and Baroque warmth.
