Ludwig van Beethoven’s 12 German Dances, WoO 8 (1795), combine classical elegance with the lightness of dance. The short, varied movements are ideal as concert pieces and teaching material. This edition was designed specifically for school and youth chamber orchestras. Easy-to-read sheet music makes it easier for young musicians to engage with Beethoven’s music. Special attention has been given to a flexible string instrumentation: In addition to a separate viola part, a third violin part is available as an alternative—ideal for smaller or unbalanced string sections. The arrangement is suitable for intermediate-level orchestras and offers a motivating introduction to classical orchestral music. The seventh dance opens the second half of the cycle with a fresh new energy. Concise rhythms and a clear structure lend the piece a sense of lightness, while small musical touches provide constant variety.
