5 horns, this piece was actually written by Prince Louis and transcribed by Jeurissen for horn ensemble to be performed at a surprise party for Prince Louis.
Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia (b. 1906) is the grandson of the last German Emperor Wilhelm II and owner of Burg Hohenzollern, the stately castle of Germany's formerly reigning family. On August 20, 1980, a special concert took place at the princely castle on the occasion of the First European Horn Symposium. This arrangement for horn quintet was performed as the Intrada – an arrangement of a short march composition for piano that the Prince himself had written in his youth. The premiere was conducted by the Detmold Horn Quintet under Professor Michael Koeltzel.
The march should be played in a very formal, rather stiff Prussian military style, with trumpet-like fanfares and a grand baritone solo in the Trio. Avoid a high school band style.
